I found Despereaux to be a bit slow and disappointingly bland. Perhaps it has to do with the mood in which I read it…
Edith Schaeffer’s book(s) have been on my radar for awhile, but so far they haven’t shown-up under my finger tips, so I haven’t pursued them further. I’ll be curious to read your review of it.

I have read many of these books my self such as,
The Kite Runner
The Tale of Samuel Whiskers
The Tale of Desperaux
The Tail of Emiley Windsnap (1-3)
The Secret Garden
And I am starting the novel, Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen.
I am a very young reader(13 years of age) but have found all of these books listed above to be very well writen for every age.
